Biography
Scott Prior is a native of Southern California. He received his Bachelor of Fine Art degree from The Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California, where he learned from artists Craig Nelson, Bill Maughan and Hui Han Liu. His studies there led him to focus on developing a solid foundation of design and drawing, which creates the structure for painting his favorite scenes from everyday life.
He has exhibited in national shows, juried competitions and invitational events across the country including the California Art Club’s Annual Gold Medal Juried Exhibitions at the Pasadena Museum of California Art, exhibitions at the Frederick Weisman Museum of Art, the Academy Art Museum in Easton, Maryland, and in the prestigious Oil Painters of America National Show.
Prior has been awarded and recognized by Oil Painter’s of America, Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, Carmel Art Festival and The Bower’s Museum Plein Air Show, among others. He was awarded the “Emerging Artist Award” by Art & Antique Magazine at the 13th annual Carmel Art Festival Plein Air Competition. Prior has been featured in American Artist Magazine and Southwest Art Magazine. Most recently, Scott participated in the Sedona Plein Air Invitational where he was awarded two awards, the prestigious Poster Award and the Vasari Paint award.
Prior is an Artist Member of the California Art Club and Oil Painters of America.
