Scott W. Prior in Southwest Art Magazine November 2011 Issue
New paintings by California painter Scott W. Prior are on view at American Legacy Fine Arts this month in a show titled Recollections of Rural California. The collection of landscape and still-life paintings capture daily life on the dwindling number of small, family-owned farms and ranches sprinkled across the Golden State. Prior calls attention to the office complexes, shopping malls, and tract housing developments that are swallowing up the countryside. The paintings portray slices of the rural life in scenes that feature everything from bountiful crops to tools used for harvesting. “Scott W. Prior’s impressionistic style and his desire to paint the reality of everyday life have resulted in a collection of paintings that brilliantly depict the ongoing challenges generations of farmers and ranchers have faced with the urbanization of rural California,” says Elaine Adams, gallery director.
