Artist Statement
"Painted one hot summer day outside of Escondido, California, a nice place to cool off! Growing up in Southern California, I still love the beautiful grays of the Chapparal hillsides. I was also struck by how very blue the sky was on the lake. And of course, it wouldn’t be California without some eucalyptus trees, so in this painting, I combined the surprise of blue water in an otherwise dry landscape, Chapparal veiled hills, and our non-native but very iconic trees—a summing up of Southern California!”
