Description
Solliday depicts a Native American genre scene that reflects life's everyday concerns in any family of any culture: the boy with his dog, the mother with her baby, and the father with his transportation. The painting portrays a family of the Sioux Nation, a First Nations Tribe who live mainly in North Dakota. The scene is a peaceful one and emphasizes the idea of abundance, as reflected in the harvest of apples, squash, and pumpkins.
Solliday’s style is reminiscent of that of the Taos Society of Artists embodied by such painters as William Herbert Dunton and Ernest Martin Hennings.
