Artist Statement
"This view is looking up Hill Street at Pershing Square in Downtown Los Angeles. I was struck by the evening light cascading across the Title Guarantee Building, built in 1930. I’ve always been attracted to this beautiful art deco building and how it stands out among the newer glass and steel architecture of downtown. I first saw it from a favorite rooftop restaurant directly across the street and I’ve wanted to paint it ever since. This time of day, the streets of downtown are like canyons, with only the upper reaches lit by the sun and everything else falling into an early darkness. Whether it’s landscapes or cityscapes, it’s all about the lighting for me."
