Artist Statement
"When leaving Morro Bay and heading south towards San Luis Obispo a massive volcanic core looms just west of the Pacific Coast Hwy to the right of the highway in front of you, this is Hollister Peak. William Wendt paid tribute to it in his masterpiece, very large and beautiful painting "Where Nature's God Hath Wrought". This area was a very active volcanic region many millions of years ago, with seven visible volcanic peaks called the Seven Sisters visible today, which includes both Hollister Peak and Morro Rock. I have tried to paint Hollister Peak in the past, but nothing I liked came of it. This painting with the evening light on the both the hills and pines framing the subject, I feel will be made into an enlargement to develop the various shapes and masses".
