Description
Jessie Arms Botke is particularly known for her paintings of exotic birds. This exquisitely painted depiction of a rare white peacock shows the bird displaying its extravagant feathers amid green foliage, revealing a delicate cloud of white splendor. The majestic bird alights on the branch of a panicle hydrangea tree, its large cone-shaped flower heads turning from white to pink, indicating the approaching fall season. The artist has created a stylized Arcadian landscape, reflecting her artistic roots in the Arts and Crafts Movement. She was married to renowned artist Cornelis Botke and the couple lived at Wheeler Ranch in Santa Paula, California.
