Description
The Englishman Julius Delbos settled in New York around 1920 as an accomplished painter and teacher, and was elected a full Academician of the National Academy of Design in 1948. This detailed watercolor of three active, young men harvesting fruit in an orchard, appears to show them in the process of making apple juice using a fruit press and crusher. It was most likely completed during the Depression Era in the 1930s or early 1940s, when American Scene painting was popular, and when Delbos was known to visit Stowe, Vermont.

Wood with gold gilt finish. The work is mounted under clear acrylic with a single mat.
