Description
The subject of this oil painting by Mian Situ shows a young woman standing poised in a moment of contemplation. The Lantern Festival is a time to remember departed family members. In her deep blue silk robe, she is complemented by the surrounding magenta tones that engulf her space and lend an air of dignity. The beautiful array of Chinese lanterns adds a soft light to the overall scene which is gracious and serene.

Artist Statement
"The Lantern Festival, also known as the Spring Lantern Festival, is a Chinese celebration that occurs on the fifteenth day of the first month on the lunar calendar. Observed in China and other Asian countries the festival honors deceased ancestors. The Chinese in America have brought the tradition with then when they settled in their new country."
