Artist Statement
"This is one of the larger interior still life works I’ve painted. I like trying to paint that beautiful sense of space I see when painting a room. This is set up in the north end of my studio right under my large 8x8 foot skylight. The overhead soft light I find so beautiful. I also liked including a couple of my paintings on the wall. I had painted the Mexican chair without anything on it. Something seemed to be missing. A friend had given my wife Terry the hydrangea plant as a birthday gift. It turned out to be the perfect element that I felt the painting was missing. It now grows in our garden."
