Description
William Stout believes that the quickest way to get good as a painter is through the practice of plein air painting. Plein air exercises teach the artist composition, design and color. Nature offers the artist infinite choices when it comes to selecting a composition. Stout believes that nature is the ultimate color mixer, often presenting combinations that the artist may or may not have thought of on his own.

Artist statement
“My favorite plein air subjects are California landscapes and our nation’s National Parks.  I have spent a lot of time in particular at Saguaro National Park adjacent to Tucson, Arizona. I love the quiet beauty of the desert there. I start painting before dawn and, because I paint somewhat silently, I soon find myself surrounded by desert critters, like quail, owls, lizards, doves, hummingbirds, rabbits and the occasional tarantula.”
