Description
Painted en plein air in Eaton Canyon near the artist's home at the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. The subject focuses on the trunks of a grouping of blue gum eucalyptus trees. The unique texture of the bark is heightened by a play of dappled light and shadow. By portraying the base of these stately trees Solliday expresses qualities of strength and character.
