Artist Statement
“From the first time I dipped my head below the surface of the ocean, dropping down into the liquid life seldom seen, I have had more and more trouble understanding the drive to paint almost any other scene.  The shapes, motion, light, and color found there are the most inspiring I have ever known.  The recent nearly tropical waters which are visiting the Channel Islands have given me an opportunity to experience the glory of our local kelp forests with very uncommon comfort and visibility, resulting in this painting of the sublime, spiritual, thrilling experience of visiting an alien world in our backyard.”
