Artist Statement
“All the objects in this painting are part of my personal collection, including the plaster cast of Frederick Ruckstull’s famous 1891 sculpture, ‘Evening.’ In this painting, I wanted to convey a message of classic beauty and my belief that we are currently experiencing a new renaissance of artistic ideals.”
—Peter Adams
Added Notes: Frederick Wellington Ruckstall (1853-1942) was a founding member of the National Sculpture Society in 1893 and headquartered in New York City, which continues to this day. His work "Evening" was awarded the Grand Medal for Sculpture at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition (Chicago World's Fair). Peter Adams acquired the plaster cast of "Evening" from his teacher Theodore N. Lukits (1897-1992).
