Description
The painting was created en plein air in Cedarville, formerly Surprise Valley, in Modoc County, California. The location is nestled between the Warner Mountain Range in northeastern California and the Hayes Range in Nevada. The historic town of Cedarville retains a sense of the Old West where cattle ranching and cattle drives continue to as a regular way of life. The surrounding rugged wilderness hearkens to California's pioneer era of the mid-19th century.
