Artist Statement
In a Still Field is an image of a female figure in motion who's at once touching down and pushing off. Though cast in bronze, she portrays a feeling that is paradoxically light and ethereal. For me, she personifies the idea or inspiration passing through the mind, often unexpectedly, sometimes escaping quickly. Many of the studies I created in preparation for this piece were sketches of tree limbs and branches which inspired the movements of her outstretched limbs and the feeling that her body is bowing, but resisting as it meets the wind.

This casting was completed in 2014 and in 2015 was awarded the Robert Merrell Gage award for Best Figure Sculpture at the 104th Gold Medal Show of the California Art Club. The piece has been published in "Fine Art Today", the online newsletter of Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine on two separate occasions in Articles entitled "Sculptures and Drawings for the Quiet Moments", posted March, 2015, and "Casting Her Voice", posted in August of 2015, both features about my work and process.”
