"That night there was a heavy snowstorm. The obscure silhouette of the cabin resembled an ancient chapel with tree trunks as colossal cloaking arms. As I painted in the cold waning moonlight the scene gave forth to something primordial, cosmic, and unknown. The heavy snowfall was everywhere on my palette and panel, I could not help but mix it with the oil paint—an alchemic improvisation born of that fleeting moment. I moved rapidly to finish the first layer before the cold overtook me. I left feeling strangely initiated in the riddles of the night."
