Artist Statement
"For the past dozen years I have taught a landscape workshop on the late Morris Graves property. Morris was an important 20th Century artist that lived and worked in Humboldt County. I have spent at least two weeks each year on the property. This piece was painted in the large beautiful living room of his home. What you see are some objects that he collected over the years and the view to the lake out the north facing windows. It’s one of the most stunning properties I have ever painted. A six acre natural lake surrounded by old growth forest. The glowing yellow on the lake is duck weed. This was truly a moving experience to set up and paint in this space."
