Artist Statement
"Painting in Hawaii is always a challenge because the weather and atmospheric conditions are constantly changing. This scene of the Kalalau Lookout had it been painted five minutes earlier would have been completely enshrouded in fog. When the clouds parted it felt like a magical curtain unfolded and I had been transported to prehistoric times. The majestic view overwhelmed me, and I knew that I was compelled to paint this, the most pristine and most isolated valley in all of the Hawaiian archipelago."
