Description
This classic plein air oil painting by Daniel W. Pinkham was created in 1985, in the early years of the artist's career. The subject depicts tranquility and harmony in nature, a consistent theme that continues in Pinkham's work today. The composition of the grouped pine trees points upwards to the sun, which is thinly veiled in soft tonal light. The entire scene conveys a sense of freedom, joy, and peace. The location is Northern Idaho, an area known for abundant forests, magnificent lakes, and outdoor activities. The region is appreciated by tourists and artists alike for its natural beauty and sporting life offered through its many ski resorts, trout-filled rivers, hundreds of miles of biking and hiking trails, and the destination town of Coeur d'Alene.
Artist Statement
"Saint Maries Fields was painted during the late afternoon on one of my first trips to northern Idaho. Some thirty-eight years later, I find it amazing that I own and live near this location. Paintings like this are why I desired to return to Idaho after all these years. Given my Russian artistic schooling, this 'poetic whisper' exposes a particular spirit within me that connects to my training."
