Description
This work is the original study for Peter Adams' "Twelfth Station of the Cross" installed at Our Savior Church located at the USC Caruso Catholic Center in Los Angeles. In the study, one can see how the artist rethought his composition by extending a two-inch piece of panel to the top of the painting in order to extend the dramatic sky. To recreate Jerusalem, Adams found a fitting location in Malibu and hired live models, including camels, commissioned a costume designer, and had three life-size crosses built to be strong enough to hold men. The following is an excerpt from a Christmas poem written by the artist:
…“Born of a Virgin to suffer scorn,
Bloody and bruised from life was torn.
Perfect in love and sinless be,
Offers to all eternity.
Born of God on earth to dwell,
Our Prince of Peace, Emmanuel.”
